Chapter History
- The Long Beach Alumnae Chapter was chartered on February 22, 1937. Our first chapter dues were only 50 cents.
- In 1938, we raised our dues to $1 a year and we donated a nickel each meeting to build up our treasury.
- In 1943, we packed soap, toothpaste, razor blades and hard candies in Christmas boxes for our men at the front.
- In 1954, we began to investigate the possibility of starting a collegiate chapter at California State University Long Beach.
- Inflation hit us again in 1959. Dues were raised to $5. We donated a glider swing to Bellwood Hospital. This year we also debut of our first chapter newsletter.
- Our membership was up to 65 members in 1965.
- We planned and hosted Zeta Day in 1978 aboard the Princess Louise. The theme was "Up, Up, and Away with ZTA." The room was decorated with colorful hot air balloons.
- "Believe" was the theme for Zeta Day 1985, which was hosted on the Queen Mary.
- 2006 "Zeta Day - Hawaiian Style" was celebrated at Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach. Over 200 Zetas attended.
- At the 2010 ZTA National Convention, Long Beach received an award for the distance most traveled!
- Long Beach Alumnae Chapter celebrated our 70th anniversary with a cocktail party in downtown Long Beach.
- We celebrated our 75th anniversary by having a luncheon at The Reef restaurant in February 2012.
- At the 2012 Convention, we received our first-ever “Silver” 2nd Runner-Up in Service!
- At the Convention in 2014, we received "Silver" 1st Runner-Up in Service! We also received Crown Chapter, and were recognized as Top Alumnae Chapter for collecting the most Yoplait Yogurt lids.
- At the 2016 Convention, we received "Silver" 1st Runner-Up for our Panhellenic Service! We also received Crown Chapter and a Helping Hands Award.
- In February 2017, we marked our chapter's 80th anniversary with a luncheon at the Long Beach Yacht Club, where we were presented with a proclamation from the City of Long Beach and Mayor Robert Garcia.
- 2019 was a busy year. We held a bingo night at LB Fisher House to support families of veterans, handed out candy to local children at a Trunk or Treat community event in Los Alamitos, passed out Think Pink ribbons at a number of pro sporting events, and held a Back to School night so we could wear our college colors and nibble on our favorite snacks as students. That was in addition to our Friendsgiving, Holiday Party and other sisterhood gatherings.
- We began 2020 by hosting more than 400 ZTAs at "Camp Zeta" - Southern California Zeta Day at the Knott's Berry Farm Hotel. During the Covid-19 Pandemic, we held virtual sisterhood events to connect despite social distancing.
